Raised in D.C., Samira is the daughter of two LGBT religious leaders, and is a graduate of the Juilliard School in New York City. As a result of her success, she has also received various awards and had her work recognized by magazines such as Out. She is happily married to Orange Is the New Black writer Lauren Morelli, and the couple recently welcomed a daughter in 2021.
