Who is Mo’Nique? Even if you haven’t heard her name before, you’ve probably heard of the successes she’s achieved throughout her career. Monique Angela Hicks was born on December 11, 1967 in Woodlawn, Maryland. Going by her stage name Mo’Nique, she is a stand-up comedian and actress who has received various accolades like an Academy Award, BAFTA Award, Golden Globe Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award. She has also been nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award and a Grammy Award. Her breakthrough came when she was part of The Queens of Comedy performing stand-up. She became a household name when she starred in sitcom The Parkers and in the 2009 film Precious. Since then, she went on to host The Mo’Nique Show, starred in various films, and even wrote a book – Skinny Women Are Evil. Mo’Nique is also married and has four children. As of late, she is gearing up to be the star of Lee Daniels’ next film, The Deliverance. Mo’Nique also disclosed that she experienced sexual attraction to women in her 2021 Netflix special My Name is Mo’Nique. She stated that she was “not all the way” a lesbian, but that “when you’re born with that, there’s absolutely nothing you can do about it”.
